MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia declared two organisations linked to the Church of Scientology “undesirable” on Friday, paving the way in which for the group to be formally banned.
The Prosecutor Basic’s Workplace stated the World Institute of Scientology Enterprises Worldwide and the Church of Religious Know-how, that are each based mostly in California, have been “a menace to the safety of the Russian Federation”.
Russia has banned greater than a dozen international teams beneath laws towards undesirable organisations, adopted in 2015. Underneath the regulation, teams are sometimes first labelled undesirable after which formally banned by the Justice Ministry.
Russian authorities have moved towards the Church of Scientology prior to now. In 2016, the Supreme Courtroom ordered the closure of the group’s Moscow department. The Justice Ministry has additionally declared a number of the group’s literature extremist.
Scientology was based in 1954 by science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, and describes itself as a faith.

The group’s critics say it’s a cult and have accused Scientologists of harassing individuals who search to stop. The church denies such allegations.
