Some of the UK’s chemical producers may need to ‘pause or shut’ manufacturing later this month, if the Authorities doesn’t take motion to assist companies with the hovering price of power, a commerce physique has warned.
Stephen Elliott, chief govt of the Chemical Industries Affiliation, who met ministers throughout final week’s crunch assembly, informed BBC Information that whereas none of his members had been “teetering on the brink” presently, the clock was ticking.
“If I go away this one other three weeks, I can’t assure that chemical companies is not going to be pausing or shutting manufacturing briefly,” he stated.
“As I sit right here no, there are not any chemical companies, past the fertiliser plant that we’ve already referrenced, which can be pausing or shutting manufacturing. However, as I stated on Friday, I can’t assure that that can stay the case over the approaching week or so.”
